Horse Books Needed for Sioux Indians

“The Red Nation shall rise again and it shall be a blessing for a world filled with broken promises, selfishness, and separations. A world longing for light again. I see a time of Seven Generations, when all the colors of mankind will gather under the Sacred Tree of Life and the whole earth will become one again. In that day, there will be those among the Lakota who will carry knowledge and understanding of unity among all living things, and the young white ones will come to those of my people and ask for this wisdom. I salute the light within your eyes where the whole universe dwells. For when you are at that center within you and I am at that place within me, we shall be one”.

–Crazy Horse, in what were his last words to Sitting Bull.

The Lakota Dream Horse Project: Here at ThinLine we find ourselves suddenly working with a tribe who has far too long kept themselves quietly on their reservation. Perhaps it is because our products speak to communication and respect for our horses, or perhaps it is part of a bigger plan foreseen by Crazy Horse.

We are now 7 generations from this great chief.  The Lakota wish to merge our technology with their legacy of equine training and tack, and to explore the possibility of sharing knowledge and respect for the horse.

Edge Has the Upper Hand after Dressage at Burghley

3 September 2010 – Ruth Edge (GBR) and the 17-year-old Two Thyme lead the clutch of superbly executed Dressage tests which brought the first phase of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (GBR), the fourth leg of the HSBC FEI Classics, to a close today.

However, Edge, a renowned exponent of this phase, has just 0.4 of a penalty in hand over New Zealander Caroline Powell, who scored a career best on another 17-year-old, the evergreen Lenamore, and defending champions Oliver Townend and Carousel Quest, who produced the only other sub-40 penalty test, are a further 0.5 of a penalty behind in third.

Two Thyme is only competed sparingly these days – his last Cross-Country run was in June – but Edge has prepared him specifically for his first crack at the Land Rover Trophy.

“He always tries so hard,” said Edge, whose previous best placing at Burghley was 17th on Marsh Mayfly in 2006. “He’s on great form and feels really up for it.”

Three Fundraising Events on One Weekend for JustWorld International

September 2, 2010 – Wellington, Florida – Three JustWorld International fundraising initiatives took place throughout North America on Friday and Saturday, August 27 and 28, 2010.  Three separate horse show communities came together for one great cause – to raise money and awareness for the benefit of JustWorld project sites in Brazil, Cambodia, Guatemala, Honduras and Senegal.

During the Thunderbird Summer Festival show jumping tournament held at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC, the local equestrian community supported a silent auction, Calcutta, and a signature JustWorld Horseless Horse Show, an event that sees competitors of all ages complete a course of miniature jumps on foot, organized by Stephanie Tidball.

“We were first introduced to JustWorld International last year by Tani Zeidler, and we were so impressed by the idea of an organization that inspires the equestrian community to come together and benefit children in need,” explained Tidball, Marketing Manager at Thunderbird Show Park.  “Not only did the events succeed in raising money, it was a fun way to get everybody involved.  Horse show moms and dads come out to support the kids, the kids get to know each other, and everyone has a great time!”

The EQUUS Foundation Announces 2010 Grant Awards

WESTPORT, CT – August 31, 2010 – The Board of Directors of The EQUUS Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the award of its 2010 grants to 60 charitable organizations that use the horse to benefit the public; promote the horse’s health and welfare; and advance the equestrian sport.

The EQUUS Foundation is dedicated to securing homes and useful lives for horses, enhancing the lives of people who benefit from horses, and educating the public on the significant impact horses have in our every day lives.

Today, millions of people are involved with horses – recreationally, competitively, and therapeutically. Age is not a limitation – horses are helping children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. Therapeutically, our equine partners have long been helping individuals bear the burdens of disabilities and debilitating diseases as well as those coping with economic disadvantages and at-risk situations.

Most recently, horses are coming to the aid of children with autism. Autism represents perhaps the fastest growing population who can benefit from equine therapies. Based on Center for Disease Control (CDC) data, an average of 1 in 110 children have been diagnosed with autism, a 57% increase in the rate of diagnosis based on a 4-year CDC study conducted from 2002 to 2006. A U.S. Department of Education study determined that autism diagnosis is growing at a rate of 10-17% year.
